College Park City Council requests a liquor licensing hearing for Thirsty Turtle

College Park City Council voted 4-3 Tuesday in favor of supporting a letter to the Board of License Commissioners requesting an expedited hearing on liquor licensing for the Thirsty Turtle.

University of Maryland Director of Public Safety Chief David Mitchell requested council support of an early hearing following a quadruple stabbing that occurred early Monday morning. The incident has been linked to a fight that started at the Thirsty Turtle.Three of victims are University of Maryland students who were served alcohol despite being underage, police report.

Some College Park City Council members voiced concerns about rushing into support of the letter and the expedited hearing. They questioned the need to make a decision without giving time to hear comments and opinions from the public.
